A month or so ago, I saw the movie Doctor Strange. It had some moments
that should resonate with Muslims. Perhaps the most Islamic part of the film
was the part where the master, called The Ancient One, tells the master-to-be,
the arrogant yet charming Doctor Strange, to “submit!” in order to use the
power of the energy around him.
Submitting to become more powerful might seem counter-intuitive, but
Islam holds that through submission, people become more in tune to the Will
that is God. It is not as though we tell or inform God what we want to happen.
Rather, we come to accept God’s will.
May God make grant us the humility to submit. Aameen.
